A Goby-Style Bottom Bait Designed to Trigger Bites with Short, Controlled Movements and a Natural Resting Posture

1. From DEADSLOWLER to GORIDORAS: Bringing Short-Travel Action to Bottom Fishing

The JACKALL GORIDORAS is a weighted, internally hooked swimbait inspired by the "Gori," a small bottom-dwelling goby found in Japanese waters.
GORIDORAS was developed by JACKALL pro staffer Mamoru Kagiya, who also worked on the DEADSLOWLER—a soft swimbait designed to produce strong action even at extremely slow retrieve speeds, allowing anglers to work a tight area without moving the bait too far.
Through the development and field testing of the DEADSLOWLER, Kagiya recognized how scraping a lure against structure could trigger a bass's feeding response.
However, sight fishing presents another challenge. Beyond getting a bass to notice the bait, it's equally important to maintain a natural resting posture when the fish moves in for a closer look.
These experiences led to the development of GORIDORAS, designed to combine the ability to generate action with minimal forward movement and a natural, stable posture on the bottom.
Although originally developed for sight fishing, field testing revealed its versatility across a wide range of bottom-oriented presentations.
2. Deep Multi-Rib Design: Scrape the Bottom, Stir Up Sediment, and Trigger Bites

The GORIDORAS features deep ribs running along its entire body, carrying over a key design concept from the DEADSLOWLER.
These ribs catch water and create resistance, allowing the bait to generate action while minimizing forward movement.
This design is especially effective when scraping the bait along the bottom. On sandy bottoms, it kicks up clouds of sediment, while contact with rocks and other hard surfaces produces sound that can draw the attention of nearby bass.
The water resistance created by the ribs also helps the bait maintain its position when contacting structure, allowing anglers to work a small area without constantly pulling the lure away from the target.
Rather than covering water quickly, the GORIDORAS is designed to stay in the strike zone longer and repeatedly tempt bass holding in a specific area.
3. Soft Elastomer Body for Instant Response to Subtle Rod Movements

The GORIDORAS is constructed from a highly flexible soft elastomer material.
This material responds quickly to even the slightest rod movements or bottom contact, producing subtle body movements during slow dragging and light shaking presentations.
Because the body reacts without requiring aggressive rod movements, anglers can impart delicate action while keeping the bait close to its original position.
This makes it particularly useful when a subtle, controlled presentation is needed to coax bites from reluctant bass.
4. Low Center of Gravity and Concealed Hook for a Natural Bottom-Resting Posture

With conventional soft plastics rigged on an offset hook, the hook's gap can interfere with how the bait rests on the bottom, sometimes causing the body to lean unnaturally to one side.
The GORIDORAS addresses this issue with an internally concealed hook design.

Combined with a low center of gravity and JACKALL's unique Triangle Structure, the bait is designed to maintain a stable, belly-down posture that closely resembles a real bottom-dwelling baitfish.
The concealed hook also preserves the bait's natural profile without an exposed hook disrupting its silhouette.
This attention to detail is particularly valuable when sight fishing for bass that closely inspect a lure before committing to a bite. The GORIDORAS is designed to look natural not only while moving, but also when sitting motionless on the bottom.
5. From Sight Fishing to Blind Casting: When and How to Fish the GORIDORAS
Sight Fishing
Sight fishing was the original purpose behind the development of the GORIDORAS.
Mamoru Kagiya recommends casting ahead of a cruising bass and giving the bait a single sharp jerk just as the fish is about to notice it.
Let the bait settle and pause, then watch how the bass reacts. As the fish approaches, give the bait another movement to imitate a small goby trying to escape.
This approach has proven particularly effective on shallow sandy flats, where the bait can kick up sediment and attract the attention of nearby bass.
Dragging & Pausing
When bass aren't visible, slowly dragging the GORIDORAS along the bottom is an effective way to target offshore flats, rocky areas, and other hard-bottom structures.
Maintain contact with the bottom as you retrieve, feeling for changes in bottom composition and pausing whenever necessary.
This approach allows anglers to carefully work transitions and isolated pieces of structure where bass may be holding.
Bottom-strolling
When bass are reluctant to bite, another effective approach is to gently shake the rod tip while allowing the head of the bait to lightly tap and scrape along the bottom.
The key is to avoid shaking too aggressively.
Use small, controlled rod movements to create a subtle bottom-pecking action, imitating a small bottom-dwelling fish searching for food.
Slow Retrieves & Controlled Falls
When bass are scattered across a wider area, slowly retrieving the GORIDORAS while maintaining bottom contact is another option.
A controlled fall on a semi-tight line can also be effective around shaded seawalls, steep banks, and breaklines, allowing anglers to target bass with a vertical presentation.
6. Two Weight Options and Two Line-Tie Positions for Different Bottom Conditions

The GORIDORAS is available in two weights, 12.8g and 16.6g, both featuring the same 2.8-inch body.
12.8g(Approx. 0.45oz)
A versatile option primarily suited for shallow-water fishing, whether you're fishing from the bank or a boat.
It's particularly well suited for uphill retrieves, such as casting from the bank toward deeper water and working the bait back toward the shallows.
16.6g(Approx. 0.59oz)
Designed for deeper water, stronger current, and situations where keeping the bait tight to the bottom is a priority.
It's also a good choice for downhill retrieves from a boat, faster sink rates, or whenever extra weight is needed to prevent the bait from lifting off the bottom.

The GORIDORAS also features two line-tie positions.
The standard position is designed to keep the bait from riding up during the retrieve, helping it maintain consistent bottom contact.
The alternative position prioritizes snag resistance, making it useful when fishing around rocks and other areas where hang-ups are more likely.
By selecting the appropriate weight and line-tie position, anglers can fine-tune the GORIDORAS to match water depth, current, bottom composition, and the direction of their retrieve.
