1. A Shallow Shad Crankbait That Brings the Original Gekiasa Shad’s Bite-Getting Performance Into Cover

The Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+ takes the original Gekiasa Shad concept—triggering bites in super-shallow water with a subtle, natural action—and expands it into cover.
The original Gekiasa Shad was developed to run horizontally at around the 50cm(1.5ft) range, just above bass holding in shallow areas around 1m(3ft) deep. While many standard shad-style crankbaits dive 80cm(2.5ft) or deeper, the Gekiasa Shad runs even shallower, making it one of the few lures that can work pressured skinny water without constantly digging into the bottom. Its subtle, tight-rolling action helps prevent bass from getting a good look and rejecting the bait. It is also one of those lures that many of our customers come back for again and again.
However, because the original Gekiasa Shad is a short-lip shad-style crankbait, there are times when it can be hard to throw around snag-prone cover such as riprap, posts, shallow laydowns, stumps, and submerged cover.
That is why Imakatsu developed the Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+.
As shown in the video above, Imakatsu added the FD Guard system—already proven for its cover-deflecting performance on the FD Vibe—to the Gekiasa Shad body. This makes it far easier to bring a shallow shad crankbait through cover that would normally make you hesitate.
2. Blade Sound, Flash, and Water Movement Help Bass Notice It Around Cover
The Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+ is not just about snag resistance from the FD Guard. The small blade also plays a major role by adding subtle metallic sound, flash, and water movement.
The original Gekiasa Shad has a subtle, tight-rolling action that bass have a harder time detecting as artificial. That is a major advantage on pressured fisheries. Around cover, however, there are also times when bass may not notice a lure with such a soft action. This is especially true inside shallow cover, between rocks, in the shade of posts, or around laydowns, where the key is to get the bait noticed without overpowering the fish.

The blade makes delicate contact with the front hook, producing a subtle metallic sound and flash that help imitate the liveliness of small baitfish moving around cover. The blade also pushes water, creating extra disturbance that a soft shad-style action alone may not generate.
Too much appeal can make pressured bass turn away. Too little appeal can make them miss the bait entirely.
In that kind of super-shallow cover situation, the Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+ gives you both a subtle bite-triggering action and just enough blade appeal to make bass notice.
3. Choose the Original Gekiasa Shad When the Bite Gets Tough
The Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+ is not simply an upgraded version of the original Gekiasa Shad. The original Gekiasa Shad, Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+, and Gekiasa Flat are all designed for super-shallow water, but each one fits a different situation.
The original Gekiasa Shad is best when you want the most natural presentation possible in open shallow water, along banks, or around light cover. Its strength is that it does not add unnecessary appeal. It simply uses a subtle, tight-rolling action that pressured bass have a harder time refusing.
The Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+, on the other hand, shines when you want to attack cover that would normally be difficult with a standard shad-style crankbait. Around riprap, posts, shallow laydowns, stumps, and submerged cover, the FD Guard helps it come through more easily than a normal shad crank. The blade also adds metallic sound, flash, and water movement, making it easier for bass holding around cover to notice the bait.
If you want the most natural presentation, choose the original Gekiasa Shad. If you want to push a shallow shad crankbait into cover, choose the Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+.
4. Choose the Gekiasa Flat When You Want More Appeal in Open Water
The Gekiasa Flat is often used alongside the Gekiasa Shad because it also runs in a shallow range. However, its main strength is the strong flash produced by its flat-sided body. By reflecting light off the sides of the body, it helps bass notice the lure even over a short distance. This makes it effective when you want to trigger reaction bites from bass holding around structure.
The Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+ also has blade flash, but the way it flashes is different from the Gekiasa Flat. The Gekiasa Flat produces flash from the flat sides of the body, giving it a more natural baitfish-like appearance. The Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+ creates flash from the blade, while also adding metallic sound and water movement for extra presence.
For the most natural presentation in open super-shallow water, choose the original Gekiasa Shad. When you want strong flat-side flash to help bass notice the bait, choose the Gekiasa Flat. And when you want to attack shallow cover that would normally be difficult with a standard shad crankbait, while adding blade flash, metallic sound, and water movement, that is when the Gekiasa Shad FD Guard+ comes into play.
