A Big Bait Specialized in Dog-Walking Action

1. Catching Bass Around Obstacles with the Dog-Walk Specialized Big Bait
Unlike traditional big baits, the Jackall Blast Bone is a new kind of big bait specifically designed for dog-walking action. Traditional big baits are mostly used for straightforward retrieves without much rod action, making it challenging to maneuver around pinpoint cover spots like structure. In contrast, the Blast Bone, specialized in walking bait-like dog-walking, can appeal over short distances, allowing for a meticulous approach to bass hiding around cover.
Differences from the Dog-Walk Big Bait Pioneer, the Tiny Klash
While DRT's Tiny Klash is credited with popularizing dog-walk big baits, the Blast Bone differs in its action style. The Blast Bone features a full-body lateral action, similar to a pencil bait, whereas the Tiny Klash is known for its head-shaking action. This means each has its unique strengths in different situations. Both have flat bodies, but the Blast Bone's more pronounced edges allow for a stronger water push and appeal, while the Tiny Klash is more suited for natural movement.
2. Wide Lip and Single Joint for Controlled Dog-Walking Movement in the Blast Bone
Broad Lip to Grasp Water
The wide lip on each side is designed to grasp water adequately, enabling controlled dog-walk movement with minimal travel distance. Additionally, the lip helps to avoid minor obstacles.
Single Joint for Wide Action
The conventional jointed big baits often have two or more connection points, which are ideal for creating a glide movement due to their limited range of motion.
In contrast, the Blast Bone features a single joint connection, offering more freedom of movement in all directions. The larger motion of the joint's rear section not only enhances appeal to fish but also acts as a brake during dog-walking, making it advantageous for stationary enticing.
3. Soft-Plastic Tail Breathes Life into the Lure
For its tail, the Blast Bone utilizes soft-plastic material, which is softer than the elastomer commonly used in big bait tails. This choice allows for a more lifelike and animated action. The tail's flat shape not only amplifies the appeal during underwater dog-walking but also serves as a brake to control movement, making it ideal for targeted appeals in a fixed spot. However, due to the nature of soft-plastic material, it's important to note that storing it with elastomer-based products can cause it to melt, so separate storage is necessary.
4. Differentiating Between Traditional Jointed Big Baits and the Blast Bone
Traditional jointed big baits like the Gan Craft Jointed Claw are adept at drawing fish in open water or vast areas with a glide movement. When the location of fish in the area is unknown, glide lures are recommended. Many of these lures lack a lip, increasing the risk of snagging when fishing around cover, making them more suitable for areas with fewer obstacles. Conversely, in smaller fields or places with abundant cover such as standing timber, the Blast Bone is the lure of choice. Its lip enhances its ability to avoid cover, allowing you to target areas with moderate cover. The Blast Bone excels at stationary enticing, becoming more useful as the potential bass location becomes more specific.
Bounty Fish Can Also Be Effective in Certain Areas
Despite its high snag-avoidance capability, casting directly into cover with the Blast Bone might still lead to snags. In situations where bass are hiding deep in the cover, Jackall's Bounty Fish is recommended. This lure is also specialized in dog-walking but is a soft lure, allowing the use of offset hooks, thereby significantly reducing the risk of snags.
