A soft jointed bait specialized for ‘walk-the-dog' action,
designed to tackle cover with pinpoint precision.
1. A cover-specialized soft jointed bait that overcomes the weaknesses of hard jointed baits.
In recent years, as big bass have become more cautious of the "simple retrieve" of swimbaits, a technique involving repeatedly "walking-the-dog" short-distances around cover using jointed baits like DRT's Tiny Crash has gained popularity across Japan. This technique restricts the movement distance around cover while emphasizing the lure's presence, drawing strong attention to lures. Hard and jointed lures have become popular for this technique, but they generally use treble hooks, making it tough to attack deep cover, despite the easy enticement of cover edges. As a solution, Jackall developed the soft jointed bait "Bounty Fish" that enables weedless walk-the-dog even in the toughest cover.
2. Achieving astonishingly easy skipping with high buoyancy material.
Bounty Fish is a jointed bait designed to conquer the depths of cover. To that end, Jackall set about making the angler's presentation to cover as easy as possible. The answer Jackall arrived at was to facilitate skipping with high buoyancy material. To witness its effectiveness, we refer you to the following video:
3. Exclusive mechanisms of Bounty Fish
The secret behind Bounty Fish's ability to effectively 'walk-the-dog' over short distances, despite being a soft bait, and generate a strong water push can be attributed to two distinctive shape features.
(a) Rather than traditional links, the Bounty Fish’s joint sections are linked by webbing.
By fusing netting into the soft plastic material, this union allows for a finer and shorter-distance walk-the-dog action. By enhancing the tail's flexibility, the resulting action results in an enticing sway, even during dead sticking.
(b) Body with alternating large and small ribs
The backward facing ribs of the Bounty Fish interact with the water to effectively act as brakes. This minimizes forward movement distance during walk-the-dog action, allowing more time to work Bass from pinpoint spots like fallen trees and aquatic plant pockets.
4. Different sizes to optimize the bite and limit misses
As of 2023, there are two sizes of Bounty Fish available: the original at 158mm (6.2") and a smaller version of 140mm (5.5"). Comparing the photos below highlights the volume difference. This difference serves not only to ‘match the bait’, but downsizing can help limit missed strikes by smaller fish. The 140, being smaller in volume compared to the 158, also has reduced buoyancy and water resistance. This enhances the suction during bass bites, reducing missed bites.

5. Adjust depth by adding nail weights when the surface bite isn’t there
Bounty Fish is a floating, high buoyancy lure. While designed for surface use in its standard specification, when surface strikes are poor, adjusting to suspend or sink can be achieved by adding bell weights or nail weights to the front and rear of the body (refer to video below).

[Front: nail weights 0.9g-1.1g]
[Rear: nail weights 0.3g〜0.45g]
6. Boost Your Catch by Using Hard-Jointed Baits in Rotation
As mentioned earlier, Bounty Fish is a soft-jointed bait that allows you to target fish hiding in cover like vegetation or obstacles. While it excels at maneuvering through cover, it's somewhat less effective at drawing fish at a distance compared to hard-jointed baits. If you're planning on walking the dog around the outside of cover, hard-jointed baits like Jackall's Blast Bone series, Deps' Silent Killer series, and DRT's Tiny Clash are recommended. Start by observing how fish respond to the Bounty Fish. If you find that bites are happening more outside of the cover rather than deep within it, switching to these hard-jointed baits could help you catch bass more efficiently. Plus, the larger size of these hard-jointed lures increases your chances of landing a bigger fish, which is definitely a plus.
