1. Three Characteristics of the Ultimate crankbait, Crafted by the Two Masters of the Initial 'I'
The I x I SHAD is a masterpiece created through the collaboration of Mr. Ito from MEGABASS and Mr. Imae from IMAKATSU, who have been leading the fishing industry in Japan for numerous years. This compact crankbait is filled to the brim with their meticulous attention to detail. A significant highlight of I x I SHAD is its integration of MEGABASS’s renowned LBO weight system, albeit in a miniaturized form, bestowing it with three outstanding features.
Snag-Resistant
Without a doubt, its most remarkable allure is its resistance to snagging. Even when scraped against rugged bottoms, it reliably maintains its straight and stable trajectory. This steadfast performance is achieved through a 'falling forward posture,’ where the weight is magnetically secured to the front, ensuring the head is consistently angled downwards during movement. Traditional lures with shifting weights tend to bounce upwards upon bottom contact, making it challenging to maintain a straight path while interacting with the bottom. However, the I x I SHAD, with its fixed weight, can persist in its straight course without any upwards deviation. This feature allows anglers to boldly target the bottom and various structures, enabling a direct approach to bass that tend to stay inactive at the bottom during the winter season.
High-Pitch rolling Action
The lure’s high fish-attracting potential, attributed to its high-pitch rolling action and the flickering. The weight quickly resettles after hitting the water, resulting in an immediate and lively start to its swimming action. The elongated shape of the weight coincides with the axis of the rolling action, ensuring a stable and enticing roll. Among compact crankbaits, it stands out as a particularly natural option.
Longer Casting Distance
Thanks to the LBO system, this small lure, measuring 7g in weight and 57mm in length, boasts exceptional casting capabilities even under windy conditions—a testament to the unwavering dedication of Mr. Ito and Mr. Imae. When compared to other compact crankbaits of similar size and weight from different brands, our staff has noted that it is indeed in a league of its own in terms of casting distance. This feature is particularly beneficial when targeting specific areas under the gusty conditions of spring.
2. TYPE-R for Up to 3.3 Feet, and TYPE-3 for Up to 7.6 Feet
[IxI SHAD series] | Diving depth |
---|---|
TYPE-R | 1m(3.3 feet) |
TYPE-3 | 2.3m(7.6 feet) |
TX | 4m(13 feet) |
The I x I SHAD series features a variety of models, each tailored for specific depth ranges. It’s wise to select the appropriate model based on the target depth.
- TYPE-R: This shallow runner can cover depths up to about 1m(3.3 feet)1. It has been specifically designed to maintain a stable and straight trajectory even when navigating through obstacles. While it could have been configured for a 50cm(1.6 feet) range, making it exclusively a shallow runner, it has been intentionally set to reach up to 1m(3.3 feet). This design choice aims to enhance versatility, allowing anglers to target both 1m(3.3 feet) and 50cm(1.6 feet) depths simply by adjusting the rod position.
- TYPE-3: Primarily designed to target the 2.3m(7.6 feet) range, this model also performs well in shallower waters, down to about 1.2m(3.9 feet). It is particularly notable for its high-pitch rolling action within the series, making it an excellent choice when extra attraction is needed.
If you’re aiming for even greater depths, the I x I SHAD TX is also available. Despite its compact size, this model stands out for its ability to dive up to 4m(13 feet).
3. A Trump Card for Provoking Reactions from Inactive Bass with Hard Bottom Contact
In situations like the cold-water season, when bass tend to stick close to the bottom and show no response to other moving lures, the I x I SHAD can be your trump card. Its design allows it to maintain direct contact with the bottom and structures while straight retrieving, triggering bass reactions with the movements and flashing generated upon impact. Additionally, incorporating a STOP & GO technique and adding pauses can create a slow-floating effect, providing the necessary time for feeding, even for bass that are closely hugging structures with low activity levels.
4. I x I SHAD TYPE-R vs. Gekiasa Shad
Both the I x I SHAD TYPE-R and the Gekiasa Shad from IMAKATSU are shad baits less than 60mm in size and are designed for shallow waters. However, they have different characteristics in terms of how they should be used. The I x I SHAD TYPE-R is designed to be retrieved while making contact with the bottom, whereas the Gekiasa Shad is meant to swim through midwater, best utilized by making it swim over the bass’s head. In winter or during low bass activity when they tend to stick close to the bottom, the I x I SHAD TYPE-R is the ideal choice for eliciting reactions. On the other hand, when the bass are actively feeding and focusing upwards, perhaps chasing baitfish to the surface, the Gekiasa Shad can be the better option to switch on their predatory instincts.
