The Sakamata Shad features a keel on its body sides, unlike traditional soft jerkbaits. This keel creates water resistance, guiding the body upwards. With a light jerk on an unweighted Texas rig, the Sakamata Shad darts side to side while occasionally bursting energetically out of the water. Utilize its "leaping dart action" to catch the big bass that have eluded you until now.

The Sakamata Shad is made from a softer high-density material compared to traditional soft jerkbaits. While focusing solely on darting actions, materials like those used in Zoom's FLUKE could be hardened to enhance the sharpness of darts, allowing for fast swimming speeds that excite bass actively pursuing prey. However, DEPS aimed to create a soft jerkbait that mimics a "realistic, frantically escaping baitfish." Thanks to its high-density material, the Sakamata Shad significantly outperforms other soft jerkbaits in terms of castability. For instance, while a 6-inch soft jerkbait from other brands weighs about 1/4 oz, the 6-inch Sakamata Shad weighs more than 1/2 oz, making it over twice as heavy. Despite its weight, the keel creates water resistance, resulting in a slower fall speed. This allows bass, triggered by the lure's multidirectional darting with a sinuous body movement, to catch up to the lure effectively.

Previously, anglers used the technique of inserting nail weights into the body of the original Sakamata Shad to fish it in the 3-4m(9.8-13.1feet) depth range, but adjusting it for the ideal falling posture required multiple attempts.
