1. A Soft-Plastic-Style Finesse Swimbait Created by Huddleston and Imakatsu
Many people in the United States may know Mr. Butch Brown, who is famous as a big bass hunter with many shocking big bass capture videos. The Huddle Trout (HUDDLESTON) has become the center of attention due to Mr. Brown's continuous capture of big bass approaching 20lbs. There is no doubt that the ridge tail soft bait released in Japan has been greatly influenced by this Huddle Trout. Among them, the Huddle Swimmer can be said to be the legitimate successor model whose tail was designed under the supervision of Ken Huddleston, the creator of Huddle Trout. In addition, Imakatsu reduced the size of the Huddle Trout to make it easier for bass to bite, and changed to a soft-plastic style bait with no visceral weights or rigs. The straight-line action with left and right tail swinging during the retrieve produces the natural movements of an unprotected baitfish, and makes it possible to use techniques other than steady retrieving. By creating a soft-plastic style bait, we have gained versatility that can handle various rigs and situations.
2. Wide Rig Compatibility
The basic method is a slow retrieve with no weight. The bait has almost no action and moves in a straight line with only a left and right tail swing. At first glance, it looks very natural, but it also has the appeal of displacing water with powerful vibrations. Another highly effective technique is the soft twitching action near the surface of the water which is a popular technique in Japan that imitates a small, weak fish and entices bass. Other proven uses are the Texas Rig which targets cover and floating debris while producing a baitfish that thumps along cover and the bottom, and the Light Jig Head Rig with “Mid-Strolling” (swims at a mid-depth range with a rolling action) It can also be used as a Drop Shot Rig or Wacky Rig. Its use extends beyond that of a swim bait and can be effectively used as a finesse bait with a high catch rate.
3. Trump Card to Finesse More Bites:Effective Usage
The keywords are “clear water and slow”, which maximizes the characteristics of Huddle Swimmers. Rather than using them separately, Imakatsu products are best used together to cover all situations. For example, in the case of stained water, it shifts from a slightly larger paddle tail type bait such as Baby Stealth Swimmer and Slash Bambi to Javallon and Javagil, and entices fish that respond to different types of large actions and silhouettes. If you throw in a Huddle Swimmer at a point where you have confirmed a chase after those swimbaits but does not reach a bite, or at a spot where you are sure of the presence of a bass, you can maximize your ability to catch without missing anything. Alternatively, if the pressure is high and the water quality is high, you can use a Huddle Swimmer from the beginning. ※Baby Stealth, Slash Bambi, Javallon and Javagil are soft-plastic lures from IMAKATSU.
4. Available in 2inch, 2.4inch, 3 inch, 4 inch, and 4.5 inch Sizes
As of 2024, Huddle Swimmers are available in five sizes. The models match the size of the target bass and the size of the bait, but if used for retrieval, the 4 inch and 4.5 inch sizes can be used to make use of the tail action to cast and search. 4.5 inch models can be used as bait tackle and other models as spinning tackle without stress, which is one of the ways to use them properly. Lastly, it is best to use 3.5 inch, 2.4 inch, and 2.0 inch models for finesse techniques such as mid-strolling.
5. Elastomer Style Suitable for Cover and Shallow Depth Captures
An elastomer style is also available as an additional model of the 4 inch and 4.5 inch sizes. The biggest advantage of elastomer is the high buoyancy and durability. For example, a 4.5 inch bait will not sink even with a 5/0 hook and a 1.8g nail weight, so you can cast and retrieve it from behind cover with a super slow retrieve. You can also twitch the surface of the water with a no-weight that hangs on the side of the hook, and can be fished in a super slow deadfall or suspended state if adjusted well. It can be said that it is the most suitable lure for "Hover Strolling" is a popular technique in Japan that fishes a small, floating lure in a suspended state while reducing the force of its forward movement.
In addition, the durability prevents breaks, cuts, and tears, even while used with a thin hook threaded through the bait’s middle section and cast forcefully. Its durability is maximized by a technique called "hanging" that directly attacks cover. This method hangs a lure on an obstacle and then creates a shaking motion while waiting for bass. Huddle Swimmers are able to boldly attack even in situations where one might hesitate knowing that soft-plastic material is fragile and wears out quickly.
6. For Extra Flash, Try the Flash Plate Model
When you need more flash, like with umbrella-rig-strolling techniques, we recommend the Flash Plate Model introduced in 2024. When rigged in a school, the Huddle Swimmer Flash Plate Model's random flashing perfectly mimics a baitfish school.
7. Hook Combined with a Section of Spring and Plastic Glue
Normal soft-plastic materials will inevitably suffer tears and cuts in the head area, and since we have a relatively expensive soft bait we want to reduce wear and tear as much as possible. When using a Texas Rig or no-weight, it is better to use twist lock hooks than offset hooks. When using thin hooks for dropshot, we recommend to use a spring as the photo for better durability. It is recommended to use glue or adhesives for soft-plastics repair if they are torn. Huddle Swimmers continue to be supported by many anglers more than 10 years after their release due to their natural action, realistic appearance and paint, and versatility that can be used with a variety of rigs. The reason, of course, is that they are soft baits that catch results.
