B.A.S.S. ELITE Kyoya Fujita’s Big Spoon that Easily Executes Glide-Back Falling
1. The Key of Big Spoon Discovered by K.Fujita in B.A.S.S. ELITE Was the GLIDE-BACK
In his debut year participating in the B.A.S.S. ELITE tournament, Kyoya Fujita secured the 7th place in the AOY rankings. Fujita is well known as an angler who specializes in LiveScoping. He's spent considerable time observing how bass react to lures through the LiveScope screen. The key to the action of the big spoon lure he discovered is the "glide back falling." However, at the time he identified this technique, it was difficult to execute the ideal glide back falling with existing spoons on the market. This led him to develop the "CounterBack" big spoon.
2. What makes the ideal Glide Back: Appropriate Falling Speed and Angle
While it's possible to achieve a glide back falling using existing products by simply adding a weight, the next issue is the fall speed. According to Fujita, "If it falls too fast, the bass will give up chasing it. On the other hand, if it falls too slowly, the bass will merely watch it." The CounterBack was designed with the ideal fall speed and angle in mind, based on Fujita's three years of observing bass reactions through the LiveScope. This makes it easy for any angler to catch bass with CounterBack.
3. When the Counter Back Shines: Almost Year-Round
The best season for the CounterBack is from summer to early autumn, when bass and baitfish are offshore. It's effective to mimic baitfish in the cooler, deeper waters and get the bass to chase and bite. From autumn onwards, it's effective to aim for bottom-dwelling bass, similar to using metal jigs and vibes. Big spoons are effective for targeting big bass, so it's definitely worth a try. Also, according to Fujita, "It's also effective in early spring when pre-spawn bass haven't fully moved into the shallows yet."
4. Fujita Uses All Available Colors
Paint applied on one side
Paint applied on both sides
The Counter Back comes in two general color schemes: one with paint applied on one side and another with paint applied on both sides. Most big spoons on the market have paint only on one side. According to Fujita, "Even if it's painted, the metallic color on the backside can be too dominant. Spoons painted on both sides look more natural." Fujita switches between all available colors depending on the weather and water conditions.
