The iconic ITO SHINER, created by renowned lure master Yuki Ito, was originally produced for American anglers Aaron Martens and Edwin Evers to give them an advantage over the competition. This led to the American release, and from there, a limited release in Japan. Used in competition by Ito himself, the ITO SHINER is a big suspending jerkbait, measuring 115mm (4½”) with a high side profile that sports enhanced side to side wobbling due to the 3 free weights inside. This tungsten weight system also increases castability, thrusting the weights to the tail during the cast, giving a 30% longer cast compared to other jerkbaits. The weight system also gives the ITO SHINER high pitch rolling action and erratic lunging when twitched and pulled.

2. Forefather of Megabass lures

With the phenomenal success of the ITO SHINER, The X-80 series was developed and commercialized in a smaller size that better matched Japanese baitfish. The X-80 series incorporated all the performance of the free weight system while sporting less length and a slightly lower side profile.

The OneTen series was then released to American specifications, namely thinning the body and increasing the height of the X-80. The increased weight and length of the OneTen made it very popular in Japan and the United States. All thanks to the original…the ITO SHINER.

The ITO SHINER is used by top American pros as the ultimate weapon when other jerkbaits cannot catch fish. Boasting good size and a large, flashy side profile, the ITO SHINER is perfect to induce those pinpoint reaction strikes.

While the OneTen may be attractive for its long, erratic darting action, the dart width of the ITO SHINER is narrower, but with more flash. Instead of exploring wide areas of water, the ITO SHINER is best used to pinpoint Bass clinging to structure and those that are suspending. Compared to the Oneten, with its tight rolling action, the ITO SHINER has a higher body height and a larger opposite side, so it rolls looser, but with enhanced action, and can dynamically move water while emitting flash over a wider area. American anglers attest to the ITO SHINER’s ability to attract Bass when the water is cloudy, in rough water, or when it rains in low light.
