The IK-800R2 was developed for smelt lakes, like Lake Aono in Japan, where big bass tend to flock in the 8m range. This innovative lure is capable of attaining depths of up to 5.5m (18’) by casting and 8m (20+’) or more by trolling. Most important is the "quick changer mechanism" which allows the angler to set a quick change weight. Flight distance, dive depth, and dive range are all improved when adding additional weight to the eyelet on the underside of the oversized lip. A depth of 8m is reached just by casting out, then increased to about 15m when trolling with weight. In summer and winter, you can monopolize the low-pressure bass that hides in deep places.

2. Switch to Over-Sized-Crankbaits for Increased Appeal and Bigger Bass

When the IK-800R2 was first released, Over-seized crankbaits were not yet present in the market. The over-seized crankbaits available in the market now are significantly larger than the IK-800R2, with a length of over 90mm(3.5”), which is about 1.4 times the size of IK-800R2, and a weight of over 50g(1.7oz). Due to their size, choosing the right tackle is crucial and using them for a whole day requires considerable physical strength. However, there are benefits to their size. They can dive to depths of over 7m(23ft.) just by casting, making them highly effective for targeting large bass that are active in deep areas.

If you're using the IK-800R2 but find that the size of the bass you're catching is not increasing, we recommend trying an over-seized crankbait like the Megabass BIG-M7.5. On the other hand, for tough bass that are put off by the strong presence, strong water displacement, and vigorous action of over-sized crankbaits, the smaller body of the IK-800R2, designed specifically for Japan's tough conditions, can be more effective.
