Compact POP X Popper - Delivers the Original's Lively Action with Limited Range

Swimming Action

1. Small Body with Perfectly Balanced Action to Attract Bass Without Spooking Them

The BABY POP X, a miniature version of the renowned POP X, was launched in 2012. While the POP X measures 64mm, the BABY POP X is just 50mm, about the size of a little finger. It was originally a model used privately by Mr. Ito.
You might think that miniaturizing it would weaken the action and make it less effective in attracting bass, but the action of the BABY POP X belies its small size. When it swims, the splash creates large, low, and wide bubbles to the sides, interspersed with fine splash. Despite its 50mm size, the BABY POP X makes a significant presence with its bubbles and splash, yet without unnecessarily pressuring the bass, which is part of its charm.
The popping sound has a natural quality that Mr. Ito insisted on. Unlike the exaggerated 'gap-pop' or 'gob-pop' sounds typical of some poppers, the BABY POP X makes a subtle ’splish-splash’ sound, more akin to a bug moving slightly on the water surface. This adds to its natural and effective presentation.

2. Enables Pinpoint Accuracy with Controlled Movement Distance

The BABY POP X offers capabilities unique to its smaller size compared to the POP X. One such advantage is its ability to swim tightly within a limited area, keeping the movement distance controlled.
The line eye on the BABY POP X is positioned in the center of the mouth, as opposed to the upper jaw placement on the POP X. This modification allows it to follow rod movements more agilely. With enhanced maneuverability, it can now precisely navigate through narrow spaces and around obstacles, enabling detailed exploration of confined areas.

The relatively chubby shape of the BABY POP X gives it more weight than its size would suggest, so there's no need to worry about reduced casting distance due to its smaller size. Some anglers report being able to cast it up to about 30m(98.4ft), even with a tinsel-equipped hook on the rear.
Another advantage of its smaller size is a quieter splash upon landing, allowing it to approach bass without being easily detected. This subtlety is one of its attractive features.

3. Choosing Between BABY POP X and POP X: Use BABY POP X for Pinpoint Accuracy

In terms of appearance, as you can see in the photos, BABY POP X is significantly smaller than POP X. The paintwork retains the same beautiful design as POP X, showcasing MEGABASS's ability to create a realistic baitfish resemblance.

When considering when to use BABY POP X in comparison to POP X, several factors come into play, including the following scenarios:

  • When there are many obstacles, and you want to target specific spots.
  • When bass are highly cautious, and you feel that POP X is too attention-grabbing.
  • When you believe bass are feeding on smaller prey.

1. When there are many obstacles, and you want to target specific spots: In fields with numerous obstacles such as standing trees and aquatic plants, it becomes necessary to cast your lure into tight spaces and work it diligently within that narrow range to attract bass. While topwater fishing is mainly associated with the summer season, it's also a time when aquatic vegetation grows, making BABY POP X more useful.

2. When bass are highly cautious, and you feel that POP X is too attention-grabbing: Despite its emphasis on naturalness, there may be times when POP X seems too aggressive. In such cases, opt for BABY POP X. It produces less splashing upon entry, and its smaller size is less likely to trigger caution in bass compared to POP X.

3. When you believe bass are feeding on smaller prey: BABY POP X is a suitable choice when you want to downsize your lure to match the baitfish.

While POP X is considered a top-tier lure, BABY POP X complements it by handling scenarios that POP X may not cover. Therefore, having both in your arsenal can be a valuable choice.
