The advantage of using the Hi-FLOAT series is that you can attack the edges of structures such as weeds and bushes, piers and rocky areas without worrying about snagging. The Hi-FLOAT excels in complex weeded areas using the ‘jerk and rise’ technique made famous by Bass guide Shinji Sato.

2. Jerk and float for catching bass lurking in weed holes

In the summer’s submerged weeds, the Bass lurk where the weeds don’t grow and "holes" are formed due to rocky bottoms, muck, or whatever else. Here, the ONETEN R Hi-FLOAT comes into play to pinpoint the holes. Using the "Ukiuki pattern", which is diving the lure into the hole, jerking several times, then floating the bait to the surface. Bass are stimulated by shaking the water with a jerk, then floating the lure up to the surface and waiting for the hungry Bass to eat it up.

In addition to ONETEN's jerk power, the buoyancy has been strengthened, ironically strengthening the flash and jerk abilities. A jerk that shakes the surrounding weeds together will turn the Bass' attention toward the surface of the water. Looking up, as Bass do, at the swaying surface of the water, it will mistakenly think that an unprotected baitfish is floating. Hovering below its prey is a perfect environment for Bass to drive into the fish, so the bass will also head in a straight line toward the lure.

3. Retrieve: Running the edge of the weed beds just below the surface of the water

The ONETEN R is characterized not only by its sharp jerk, but also by its realistic colors that ‘flash’ the lure when retrieving, all characteristics the Hi-FLOAT series inherits from it. By using a natural tight wobble and roll, you can make a moderate appeal that does not spook bass. The height of the weedbeds vary depending on the lake, but with the Hi-FLOAT series, you can swim down and around the weeds, according to their depth, without worrying about snagging by simply ‘floating out’.

In shallow areas where the weeds stretch to the very edge of the water surface, jerk and stop works well till you hit an open hole you can dive into. If you slowly work the ONETEN R Hi-FLOAT through the narrow gaps between the weeds and the water surface, the bass attack from trailing below, making for magnificent topwater strikes. You can also use ONETEN R+3Hi-FLOAT to go get them when the weeds are deep.

4. Flies the best in the One Ten series

Among the ONETEN series, the ONETEN R is the most renowned for having impressive casting distance. The Hi-FLOAT type also adopts the moving center of gravity system with one large weight, so it can withstand the strong winds of big lakes like Biwa in Japan. While you want to use Hi-FLOAT for detailed attacks around covers and structures, you can also throw it anywhere. When the lure lands on the water, the weight immediately returns forward and is held, so you can move to action immediately after landing, and you won't have a chance to see the bass, which are aware of the water surface.
