Versatile soft-plastic crab
Do Bass Eat Crabs?
Bass are known for their strong predatory nature, consuming a variety of prey including fish, insects, and crustaceans. While it's common to hear about them eating shrimp and crayfish, what about crabs? Indeed, in rivers and lakes where bass coexist with crabs, their hard exoskeletons likely don't pose a challenge to the bass's powerful jaws. If it turns out that bass do prey on crabs, it might open up new possibilities for anglers in their approach.
1. If crabs inhabit your fishing spot, there's no better choice than the Drift Crab.
Noticing bass often spitting up crabs during tournaments, pro angler Mamoru Kagiyama steered Jackall towards creating the next big thing in crustacean baits – a crab lure. While crawfish and shrimp imitations are abundant on the market, the Drift Crab has carved out its niche as a soft bait specifically engineered to mimic crabs, replicating their looks, movement, and sinking speed to a tee.
2. Even if crabs aren't native to a spot, bass can't resist the Drift Crab's unique silhouette and vibrations.
The lure's distinctive profile and the seductive pulse it generates in the water can tempt bass even in regions where crabs aren't part of their regular diet. The lure's side arms create a complex dance in the water flow, producing tantalizing ripples, while its steady horizontal descent emulates a mysterious creature. This presents an irresistible new challenge for the bass, sparking their curiosity.
3. The lure's flat body opens up new rigging possibilities and strategic approaches.
Utilizing its crab-mimicking flat design allows for a variety of rigging and techniques. Especially in shallow waters inhabited by crabs, around logs or rock piles, it allows you to fish effectively without getting snagged. It's a perfect match for leaderless drop shots or free rigs. Aim for the bottom, slowly dragging the lure towards submerged trees or rocks. If the rig gets stuck on an obstacle, a gentle shake will give the Drift Crab a tantalizing flutter. After it's freed from the obstacle, the slow sinking motion invites a bite. The flat body ensures a slow fall, giving the bass ample time to strike.
4. Choose the Drift Crab Mini for the perfect bite-sized offering high buoyancy.
Thanks to its elastomer material, the Drift Crab Mini has such high buoyancy that it can float on the water surface. It's excellent for twitching just below the surface, but it's also great for drop-shot rigs! Unlike the original, it won't sink underwater but maintains a perfect suspend, gently tempting the bass.
