Mass-driven body that delivers a tight-pitch, wide-action paddle tail swimbait.
1. Tight-Pitch Yet Pushes Water. No Sluggish Feel — Like a Real Fish.
In the Japanese market, there have long been paddle tail swimbaits that swing both the tail and body powerfully. However, most of them are designed with a slower, wide, low-pitch wobble.
The Caramel Shad is different.
Despite its thick, mass-rich body, it delivers a high-pitch wide action that keeps both the body and tail moving without feeling heavy or delayed.
Rather than exaggerating the swing unnaturally, it continuously pushes water at a fast tempo. The result resembles the quick, powerful escape of a larger baitfish — carrying weight, yet moving with speed.
2. The Lattice Body Creates Irregular Flash and Complex Water Disturbance

The grid-like body — inspired by caramel candy with a scored surface (a style more common in Japan) — is where the bait gets its name.
Designer Haruhiko Murakami has said he simply wanted to create something that didn’t look like anything else on the market. However, the shape proved to be more than visual originality.
From any angle, the lattice ribs disturb water in fine detail while scattering light irregularly. This helps break up the bait’s outline underwater, much like a real living-things whose body do not reflect light uniformly.
It draws attention through movement first — then prevents close inspection through its visual complexity.
3. A Micro Paddle Designed to Grip Water to the Limit

To secure long casting distance, the Caramel Shad features a large body paired with a small paddle, reducing air resistance and allowing excellent casting performance even weightless.
However, a small paddle alone would not grip enough water.
The paddle tips are curved to enhance water resistance. In addition, the tail joint is built thicker to transmit the paddle’s movement directly into the body. If made thinner, the energy would be lost and turn into excessive roll.
By minimizing roll and allowing the tail to receive water pressure fully, the tail beats intensely and transfers that vibration into the body.
The result is a tight, high-frequency trembling action that sits right at the edge of instability.
4. Maintains a Horizontal Posture Even Weightless
The intentionally thick, flattened body allows the Caramel Shad to maintain a horizontal swimming posture, even during strong movement.
While many paddle tail swimbaits tend to curve on the fall, the Caramel Shad falls horizontally. This slower, level fall increases time in the strike zone and reduces unnatural movement that may alert bass.
5. Recommended Nail Weight Setup

Manufacturer-recommended nail rig:
- Front: 1/16 oz (1.8 g)
- Rear: 1/32 oz (0.9 g)
If you intentionally want a curved fall, you may omit the rear nail weight.
6. Recommended Hook & Sizes
The Multi Offset hook supervised by Haruhiko Murakami is recommended.
