Mid-Strolling and Hovering are techniques favored by professional anglers in Japan and are considered some of the most subtle moving baits. Recently, due to the success of 2023 BASS ELITE at Lake Champlain Champion Kyoya Fujita, these techniques have gained attention in the U.S. as well. (As of August 2023, there's ongoing debate in the U.S. about what to call Mid-Strolling; it has been referred to as "Damiki-Style-Rig" in B.A.S.S. programs.) At first glance, it may seem like you're just shaking the rod to retrieve the jig-head-rigged soft-plastic, but the technique actually requires "keeping the bait at a consistent depth while rolling it," which is incredibly challenging. Because they are subtle baits with less drawing power than hard baits like crankbaits, it's crucial for anglers to swim the lure through the targeted fish's range, maintaining a consistent depth during retrieval.

2. A Unique Bill Makes Mid-Strolling and Hovering Easier

3. Two Holes for Easier Rigging

Given the delicate nature of Mid-Strolling and Hovering, rigging is crucial. If you don't set the hook and weight properly, you won't achieve a smooth/consistent rolling action. Drift Fry has two holes: one 'Guide Hole' for setting jighead hooks in the best position and 'Nail Weight Hole' for inserting nail weights for Hovering.

4. Adjust the Target Range with Jighead Weight

You can change the target depth for Drift Fry’s Mid-Strolling by adjusting the weight of the jighead. If you want to target shallow waters, use lighter weights. For deeper waters, select an appropriate weight up to a limit of 3/32oz (2.7g).
